Chicago’s biggest music Festival: Lollapalooza 2019

Lollapalooza is a music festival that takes place annually in Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. This year from 1st- 4th August 2019 , the city of Chicago will be swamped with 100,000s of people prepared to have a great time.

Conceived and created by Perry Farrell, the lead singer of the band Jane’s Addiction in 1991. The festival was revived in 2005 and has continued since then. With a line up of over 180 artists this year and genres ranging from alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock, hip hop, and electronic music, and eight stages, lollapalooza is a super loved and awaited music festival of the year.

This year’s lineup includes artists like, Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, The Chainsmokers, Twenty one Pilots and many more coveted artists. The location of the festival, makes it even more appealing to the travelers hoping to extend their trip in Chicago. The music scene is huge in Chicago and Lollapalooza is just a part of it. So while you are there you can check out the music and art scene in the city.

Tickets for Lollapalooza

When purchasing the tickets make sure it is Lollapalooza’s official website and no other non-reliable sources. The authorities reserve the right to not allow you entry if the credibility of the ticket is in question.

The tickets are slightly expensive, but the festival and the vibe makes it worth the money and the time. The general 4 days pass can cost around 340$ and the platinum tickets may go upto 4200$. The prices vary every year, so a research before booking is advised. One-day general admission starts at $130 per person, with extra bells and whistles available for up to 2k for a one-day platinum level pass.

Tickets to the biggest Lollapalooza edition, in Chicago, are usually sold out in the first few hours itself. If you decide to join the program later, make sure you grab the pass from a reliable source; as for such a massive event there may be fraudulent passes available through various sources.

(The festival has also begun giving tickets on plans, that allow you to pay for them in installments.)

How to get to Lollapalooza?

The transit options for Lollapalooza are varied such as renting a car, taxis, buses, trains, bicycles etc. Following are some ways in which you can travel to the festival:

Through a rental car

If you are travelling from outside of Chicago, as is most of the population that joins the festival, you can fly in at these airports.

The rental counters of our partners (Enterprise, Avis, Budget, Alamo etc.) are present near and inside the airport compounds, therefore picking your rental car is really easy. Prior bookings are recommended to avoid unavailability of your desired vehicles.

Via Public Transportation

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has train and bus routes to Grant Park, throughout the city and to both major airports. Map out your route on CTA and enjoy exploring the city.

If you are traveling from the suburbs, Metra’s commuter rail system makes it easy. Metra takes you to and from Lolla via one of five downtown train stations within walking distance of Grant Park.

For people who are lodging in nearby parts of Downtown Chicago, walking and cycling to the ground is also a convenient option.

Parking / Pick up / Drop-off

Convenient and security patrolled, 24-hour parking is available near Grant Park. If you decide to rent a car, it is advisable you also reserve a parking spot for the vehicle, to avoid last minute delays.

Parking is not available on the festival grounds. The Millennium Park Garage and the Millennium Lakeside Garage located at 5 S. Columbus Dr. (between Randolph and Monroe on Columbus) and the Grant Park North Garage located at 25 N. Michigan (entrances on Michigan at Madison, between Randolph and Monroe) are all fully accessible.

The designated ADA Pick Up and Drop Off location is on Monroe at Columbus Dr. Pick Up and Drop Off Only. No Parking.
